Record your walks and hikes. Keep them to yourself.

Every mainstream tracker uploads your GPS traces to someone else's server, and a location history says where you live, work and spend your time. walker keeps all of it on your phone. There is no account to create and nothing to sign in to.

What it does

Record

Walks, hikes and rides from the phone's GPS, with the screen off. The notification shows time and distance, and pauses or resumes.
Pauses by itself when you stop, and recognises whether you are walking, hiking or cycling. You can correct it.
Every point is written to the phone as it arrives. If Android closes walker or the battery dies, the recording is waiting when you come back.

Maps, offline

Region packs you download yourself: a state, a district, or the area on screen. They are built from OpenStreetMap.
Once downloaded, the map works without a connection. walker never loads map tiles from the internet as you go.

Look back

History of every activity, with the track, the elevation profile, pace, splits, and moving against stopped time. Each track can be shown as recorded or cleaned of GPS jitter.
Stats by week, month and year: distance, time, elevation, and your pace against the gradient.
Routes: walker notices when you walk the same way again, ranks your attempts, and times the stretches your walks share.
Steps every day, all day, from the phone's step counter, with a daily goal.
Achievements: badges for milestones and consistency, and streaks for your weekly goal, active days and daily steps.

Your data, your files

Backups are files encrypted with a passphrase of your choosing, stored wherever you like. Restoring one adds what is missing and never overwrites what is there.
GPX export for any single activity, to open in other apps.
Privacy & storage shows what walker stores, and lists every time it went online. One button deletes everything.

What it needs

Android 12 or later, with GPS.
A step counter for steps. walker records without one.
A connection only to download a map region. Recording, history and backups work offline.

walker asks for each permission when it needs it, and explains why first. You can say Not now to any of them.

Precise location	To record your track and show where you are on the map.
Location all the time	Optional. Lets a recording carry on by itself if Android closes walker. Without it, the recording is kept, and walker offers to resume it when you open it again.
Physical activity	To read the step counter.
Notifications	For the recording notification with its Pause, Resume and Stop buttons.
Internet	Only for map regions, when you tap Check size, Download or Check for updates.
