walker privacy policy

walker records your walks, hikes and rides on your phone. It has no account, no server and no analytics, and it sends no data about you to us or to anyone else.

Location, steps and activity

walker uses your phone's GPS while you record, and the step counter to count your steps. What it records stays in walker's storage on your phone. Android's own backup is turned off for walker, so it is not copied to Google Drive or to another phone either.

Background location

If you allow location “all the time” (on onboarding's “In the background” page, or with “Keep recording if Android closes walker” in Settings → Recording), walker uses it only to carry on a recording you started, after Android closes the app. It is off unless you allow it.

Map downloads

Maps are region packs you download yourself, from Protomaps (build.protomaps.com and build-metadata.protomaps.dev). A download tells Protomaps your internet address and the map area you asked for. It never includes your position or your tracks. walker goes online for nothing else, and Settings → Privacy & storage lists every download it made.

Backups and exports

A backup is a file encrypted with your passphrase, and a GPX export is a file of one activity. Both are made only when you ask, and you choose where they go.

Crash reports

walker has no crash reporting. If you share usage and diagnostics with Google, Android may send Google crash and freeze reports about walker. Google shows them to the developer without your identity.

Deleting your data

Settings → Privacy & storage → Delete all data deletes everything walker has stored. So does uninstalling walker.

If a new version of walker changes what this page says, the page changes with it, and the date above shows when.
